Notary public services – signatures and documents

In Iceland, the District Commissioners (sýslumenn) act as notaries public. They certify signatures, certify copies and issue certificates intended for use abroad. We prepare your documents, guide you through each step and make sure the notarisation meets the destination country's requirements – with an apostille and translation when needed.

What can a notary public certify?

Signatures on powers of attorney, contracts and declarations; that a copy matches the original; life certificates for foreign pensions; sworn statements and more. Foreign institutions often have specific wording and format requirements – we make sure the document is right from the start.

Notarial services abroad

Does your document need to be notarised in another country, for example by a Polish notariusz or a French notaire? We work with partners in many countries and can arrange the notarisation without you having to travel.

One coordinated process

A document often has to be drafted or translated, then notarised, then apostilled and finally translated again for the destination. We coordinate every step so you receive one complete, ready-to-use document.

Do I need to attend in person?

For signature certification the signatory usually has to appear with valid ID. We prepare the document so the visit is as short as possible.

Do you provide legal advice?

No, we are not a law firm. We handle the format, translation and certification of documents and refer you to a partner if legal advice is needed.

Can you arrange notarisation in Poland or France?

Yes, through our partners in these and other countries.
